Thrilled to be Back in Boulder

Hi all, this is Gwen Bell, back in Boulder again after 6 months of travel following my house burning down. That experience kind of sucked but at least one of the photos from the incident became an internet mini-meme!

My 6 months on the road didn’t bother me at all. I grew up in a military family, got my first passport at two and have traveled, rather lightly (carry-on only), ever since. I opened my first business at 23 and in Japan, and have gone on to start several more in different corners of the world and the web.

So it really says something about Colorado, and Boulder in particular, that I decided to resettle here. I love that Boulder buzzes with entrepreneurial activity. Visit any cafe in town (or one of the many new startup offices downtown–more on that coming soon) and you’ll hear ideas hatching, laptops clicking, deals being crafted on the fly. It’s so different than any other city I’ve visited, anywhere in the world. A lot of places have people with good ideas, but Boulder is filled with people who have good ideas and the drive to see what happens when they come off the back of the cafe napkin.

If you’re into startups you probably already know me, and if you don’t, you’ll be hearing from me soon. I’m going to be all over this city getting the scoop on the coolest projects, the wildest ideas, and the boldest ventures. Let’s rock it.

Tomorrow morning I’ll be back in the swing starting with Boulder Open Coffee Club (located at The Cup now). For those of you that can’t make the BOCC because at 8am it’s too early, you might want to check out the New Tech Meetup, an event that always draws a huge, diverse crowd. Those go down on Tuesday evenings once a month. I look forward to seeing you there, and to reporting to you from here, at the Colorado Startups blog, throughout 2008. It’s going to be an incredible year.
