Scorching hot. Especially when the battery gets low, like down to 20% or so.
I have to put it on a pillow on my lap.
Is this normal?

I read recently about someone’s Apple really melting. I couldn’t find the article, but there were even pictures of it (Apple sent them a new one, BTW). Here’s one link I did find, though: http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/19/warning-from-apple-dont-put-our-laptops-on-your-lap/. Incidently, I use an HP running Windows XP and it gets super hot after awhile.

I’ve heard that MBPs run really, really hot - to the point you can’t put them on your lap at all as you described. My laptop (an IBM z60t) stays pretty cool, but I hope they fix it before I buy a MBP later in the year.

David,
I do not have a Mac Book, but My Dell Latitude does the same thing. I have to use a pillow or my lap becomes en fuego!

From my experience with macbook pros they tend to run at hotter temperatures than their macbook counter-parts. I think this is because of the aluminum case.

My MacBook Pro gets so hot that I can’t lay my hands on the top of it, let alone put it on my lap. That’s really hot, scarily hot. But I’m used to it now, I just wonder why the top of a computer has to be like the top of a cooker.
